Overview

Seabass sustainability varies according to whether it is farmed or wild-caught, as well as its origin and fishing method. Best Choice options include ASC- or GLOBALG.A.P.-certified farmed seabass, wild-caught bass from around the UK (excluding gillnet-caught fish), and bass from the Bay of Biscay (excluding gillnets or pelagic trawls). Other farmed and wild-caught sources are OK but need improvement. Avoid wild bass from the West of Scotland. Seabass is widely available in UK supermarkets, fishmongers, and restaurants, typically sold whole, as fillets, or in prepared products.
