Youth engagement

Our youth engagement programmes help young people connect with the ocean, discover its fascinating marine life, and understand the vital role we all play in protecting it.

We’re creating exciting, accessible ways for young people to explore and enjoy the ocean, reaching more than 41,000 young people since 2021 through events, training sessions, beach cleans and boat trips, among other hands-on experiences.

Across the UK, our youth engagement programmes – including the Youth Ocean Network, Youth Advisory Panel, our summer internship and residential trips – help young people build new skills, meet like-minded people and feel part of a community that cares about the sea.

    Why is youth engagement needed?

Spending time in nature is consistently proving to benefit young people’s development, physical health and mental health. By creating inclusive opportunities for young people to engage with the natural world around them, we aim to improve wellbeing, inspire curiosity and increase ocean literacy. These activities also help young people gain new skills and training – especially those who may not normally engage with us or see a future in conservation – while showing how their own actions can help protect our blue planet.

    Youth Ocean Network

The Youth Ocean Network is a UK‑wide community for young people aged 13–25 who want to learn about the ocean, meet like‑minded people and take action for healthier seas. The network is a free and flexible way to get involved in events, campaigns and projects that support our blue planet.

    Youth Advisory Panel

The Youth Advisory Panel empowers young people to help shape the future of ocean protection. By bringing new ideas, lived experience, and bold thinking, panel members play a vital role in strengthening our mission to restore and protect our seas.
