Director of Programmes
Chris is an environmental biologist with a background in ecology and a PhD on the impacts of air pollution. She has over 20 years’ experience of environmental protection, working in senior roles for government bodies on a wide range of issues from air quality to water resources. Chris joined the MCS from the Environment Agency, where she led on agriculture and land management – tackling water pollution and contaminated land. Previously Chris was the EA lead on bathing waters during implementation of the revised Bathing Water Directive, where she worked closely with the MCS.
Chris is completely passionate about the environment, and recognises the need to emphasise its’ importance in our everyday life – whether it’s for the air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat or purely for enjoyment. Having grown up in Devon the sea is very special to her, and so helping to lead MCS into the future to protect our coasts and marine environment during these turbulent times is a dream role.
