Cully and Sully, Hove - Billy Barraclough

Looking for a team building opportunity or unique outing for your company? Make your next company away day an outdoor activity that’s brilliant for bonding and even better for the environment.

At the Marine Conservation Society, we can offer you and your team a hands-on opportunity that can make a long-lasting impact for our oceans. Our Team Beach Clean programme offers a fun-filled day whilst doing something worthwhile for the environment.

Marine litter is not only unsightly and dangerous to humans, it also poses a serious threat to any wildlife that gets tangled in or ingests it. By joining a beach clean event and completing a litter survey alongside your work colleagues, you’ll be contributing vital data and taking part in the most influential fight against marine litter in the UK.

We currently offer two great options for getting involved as a company – join a group clean alongside other likeminded companies on one of our setdays, or book a bespoke private clean. Both event options are arranged and delivered by our dedicated and knowledgeable beach clean leads, who will guide your team through the day from start to finish.

Each day is centred around a beach clean and litter survey developed to encourage your team to engage with their inner citizen scientist, but we also include additional team building activities (variable dependant on tides and locations) to help you get the most out of the day. For private cleans, we're happy to tailor the day towards you and your team.

What's involved in a team beach clean?

Our beach clean officers will organise the beach event for you and your team to take part in, and one of our experts will be there to lead the day.

A typical day usually lasts about five hours, including a lunch break. During this, your team will experience:

  • A welcome and informative briefing
  • Beach clean and data survey
  • Extra team building activities
  • Full debrief and follow-up, including a data report from your day.

We'll provide all the equipment needed for the activities, including litter pickers, survey forms and first aid kits, so you just need to turn up and get stuck in.

We'll also look after the health and safety requirements such as risk assessments, local safety advice and public liability insurance.

Setday or bespoke clean: What’s the difference?
