West Mersea Autumn Beach Clean 2026
Join this beach clean to help us stop harmful litter from reaching the ocean and collect vital data that we can use to bring about positive change for our seas.
Join our litter pick and help protect our oceans, wildlife, and local coastline! Every piece of litter removed contributes to a cleaner, healthier future for both people and nature. By carrying out a simple litter survey as we clean, you'll also be contributing to real scientific research. The data collected will become part of a global database, helping scientists better understand littering patterns and develop more effective solutions to tackle marine pollution.

We'll meet at 10:00 am at Two Sugars Cafรฉ, where you'll have the chance to grab a drink, meet everyone, and take part in a short briefing. During this, we'll cover health and safety information, explain how the litter survey works, and complete consent forms for participants under 16 and anyone who is happy to be photographed. The litter pick will begin at 11:00 am and will last for one hour. Afterwards, we'll head back to the cafรฉ for a short post-clean debrief.

๐๏ธ Litter-picking equipment, if you already own any.
๐ง A water bottle to stay hydrated.
โ๏ธ Weather-appropriate clothing for either sunny or rainy weather.
Also worth knowing…
What to bring: Weโd recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).
What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.
Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.
