Join Newquay Watersports Centre and the local community for a beach clean and litter survey at Newquay Harbour as part of the Marine Conservation Society’s Great British Beach Clean. As a watersports centre based right on the harbour, this is the coastline we work, surf, paddle, swim and coasteer in every day. This beach clean is about looking after not just the beach itself, but the wider harbour, our working environment and the ocean that connects us all. We’ll be taking part in the Blue Litter Project, helping to record and understand the types of litter found in our local environment. The data collected will contribute to wider national monitoring efforts, helping build a clearer picture of marine pollution and where change is most needed. We’ll also be using equipment kindly donated by Clean Cornwall, whose support helps make these community beach cleans possible and ensures we can safely and effectively collect and record litter from the harbour area. Together, we’ll be cleaning the harbour spaces we all use throughout the season, helping stop harmful litter from reaching the sea while contributing valuable data for marine conservation research. We’d love to see local residents, families, businesses, visitors and holiday makers getting involved. Whether you can spare 20 minutes or stay for the whole session, every piece of litter collected makes a difference. It’s also a great chance to meet others in the community who care about keeping Newquay’s coastline clean and healthy. Please meet at Newquay Watersports Centre, located in Newquay Harbour Car Park. We’ll begin the beach clean promptly at 3:30pm, so please arrive a little earlier to sign in. We will provide litter pickers, gloves and reusable bags (thanks to Clean Cornwall’s equipment support). If you have your own gloves (gardening or work gloves are ideal), please bring them along. Please wear sturdy closed-toe footwear and clothing suitable for the conditions on the day. Refreshments will be available for volunteers at the centre afterwards. Public toilets are located in the Harbour Car Park. All under 16s must be supervised by a parent or guardian for the duration of the event.

Also worth knowing…

What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).

What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.

Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.

Join us on the beach whilst there's still spaces!
