A map showing the Whiteford Sands, Gower beach stretch plotted on it

Whiteford Sands on Gower is about 15 miles by car from the centre of Swansea, about 40-minute drive. Car parking is in Whitford Beach car park just down the hill towards Cwm Ivy outside Llanmadoc. There is a voluntary car parking fee of £1. From the car park there is a 30-minute walk to the southern end of the beach. Dogs are welcome but make sure they are on leads please. There are no toilets nearby!! (So go to the toilet before you leave home!) and no refreshments onsite but there is a shop in Llanmadoc with limited opening hours. Please wear appropriate clothing for wind, rain, sun and wind-blown sand. We will bag up any factory-made items which shouldn't be there such as plastic, glass, wood, rubber and dead animals. Full bags need to be taken to a collection point where the local warden will pick them up. We will focus on 100 metres near Whiteford Point closest to Whiteford Lighthouse. This is where most of the rubbish gets washed in by the tide. We can collect rubbish from elsewhere but only rubbish collected on the 100 metres stretch will be included in the count of full bags.

I will bring litter pickers and bags. Please bring your own gloves. No sandals or flip-flops. Only good shoes to protect your feet. All children welcome but must stay with their parents or minders.

Also worth knowing…

What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).

What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.

Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.
