We're looking forward to meeting you at Southsea to take part in an impactful morning event!

Below is the rough schedule for the day:

10:30 Meet on the beach

10:35 Welcome briefing

10:45 Start beach clean and litter survey (over 100m stretch)

11:45 Meet back up, collate bags and hand in data

11:50  Beach blitz! Collect as much litter as possible from the rest of the beach

12:20 Litter weigh in and debrief

12:30 Leave beach

(Please note this schedule is a rough guide and timings may differ or change on the day depending on location, tides and weather.)

Please wear sensible shoes e.g. trainers, wellingtons, hiking boots and also dress according to the predicted weather conditions. It is useful to have a waterproof coat on hand just in case; sun hats/sun cream may also be required. Please come prepared with re-fillable bottle to remain hydrated throughout the activity, as beach cleaning can be tiring and café’s/shops may not be within close walking distance. All litter picking equipment will be provided by the Marine Conservation Society but we do encourage you to bring your own sturdy gloves, e.g. garden gloves, with you if you have your own. Marine Conservation Society will provide gloves if you don’t have any to bring on the day. Hand sanitizer will be available.

**Accessibility**: We want to ensure this event is as accessible as possible. Please talk to us ahead of booking if you have any health conditions, access needs or Special Educational Needs and we will do our best to support your participation.  The promenade is accesible from the closest carpark via a path and road crossings, and there is a wooden ramp East of the cafe onto the beach. I will base the equipment near to this ramp for use if needed.

If you have any questions or access needs, please contact [email protected]

Also worth knowing…

What to bring: We’d recommend you pack a rucksack with a few essentials like sunscreen, waterproofs, hand sanitiser, and perhaps some snacks and a drink (in a reusable bottle, of course).

What to wear: If you're picking up litter with your hands it's worth wearing a strong pair of gloves - like gardening gloves - just to make sure you're protected. Sturdy shoes are a must for protection too.

Under 16s: To comply with our insurance, volunteers under 16 will need to be accompanied by an adult who will be asked to sign a parental / guardian consent form on the day by the beach clean organiser.
