An urgent message from Simon Reeve, our ocean ambassador

Simon Reeve Ocean Ambassador

“Over 10 years ago I visited a remote island off Hawaii – the shoreline was so deep in litter it was like the entire island was made of plastic. Fast forward a decade and our addiction to single-use plastic now infects almost every beach in the UK.

"In Cornwall last year, I saw photos of a female seal tangled in fishing line that had left a gaping, stinking wound on her neck.

"But the damage plastic is creating in our seas isn’t always that visible - 2/3 of all fish species studied, including some of those we eat, have ingested microplastics; whilst every year plastic kills almost a million seabirds globally.”

BBC Radio 4 Appeal

Our Plastic free seas appeal was featured on BBC Radio 4’s Charity Appeal from Sunday June 6th.

You can listen to the appeal programmes that were broadcast on the BBC website.

Please support our appeal and help us fight the plastic tide

Our beach cleans not only help stop litter flowing to our seas, but we also record it too. This gives us the evidence we need to try and stop it getting there in the first place.

But we need vital funds for this work, and all the other work we do. Right now, our iconic beaches need your support more than ever.

How your donation could help

could equip five volunteers to take part in a beach clean

could train two co-ordinators, to run more beach surveys

Double your donation*

Thanks to match funding from a long-term funder – every £1 donated will be doubled. This means we can double the impact of our work.

Please donate today! Thank you.

All funds raised will support our vital work fighting for a cleaner, healthier, better protected ocean: one we can all enjoy. Funds will be directed to areas of the greatest need.

*FatFace Foundation and Saga will match donations up to a total of £30,000 between them
