Stop Ocean Poison
Chemical pollution is fuelling the nature crisis. Since 1970, global wildlife populations have declined by an average of 69%.
Our work to Stop Ocean Poison
For years, the Marine Conservation Society has worked tirelessly to tackle chemical pollution.
And you've been with us every step of the way. From signing our petition to Stop Ocean Poison to speaking up for our seas, our supporters have helped us to build awareness of the impact chemicals are having on marine life. Over 19,000 of you called for the UK Government to protect our blue planet from chemical pollution, demonstrating just how important this issue is to the public.
Still, chemical pollution remains one of the greatest threats facing our seas. PFAS (Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances) are particularly concerning. These "forever chemicals," found in everyday products like cosmetics and food packaging, ultimately end up in the environment. We already know PFAS have negative impacts on a huge range of marine species, like polar bears and bottlenose dolphins. Without action, the problem will only get worse.
We’re standing on the cusp of real change: a ban on PFAS is within sight. Building on the momentum you helped to generate during the Stop Ocean Poison campaign, we’re ready to take our fight to the next level. We’ve got a lot planned, so sign up to our newsletter to keep up to date.
Our successes so far
Since 2019, we’ve been campaigning to raise awareness around the impacts of forever chemicals. As our understanding has developed, so has our ambition. This is just the beginning of our journey – and we want you to stick with us as we push forward.
