Description

The cod is a handsome, predatory fish that is speckled brown along its golden back, with one barbel on its chin.

Cod numbers have been depleted severely in the North Sea, Irish Sea and other North Atlantic stocks, but fishermen are taking steps that may allow them to recover.

Location

All around the UK, often in shoals in deeper water, but sometimes seen by divers and snorkellers in shallower water.
