Description

Site overview

This site is an outstanding example of a complex lagoon system in an extremely sheltered, undisturbed and natural environment. Maerl beds have formed here which in turn are home to a large number of species.  There are a couple of unusual species found here including rare types of algae.

Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) are strictly protected sites designated under European legislation. They contribute both to the UK MPA network and set up to protect habitat types and species considered to be most in need of conservation at a European level (excluding birds).
