Wild Coast Sussex
Wild Coast Sussex is a partnership project, led by Sussex Wildlife Trust, with Marine Conservation Society, Sussex Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authority and Brighton Sealife.
We’ll be working with coastal communities in Sussex to help them care for their marine environment and protect their local coast and sea.
The project aims to:
- Inspire and connect people to the Sussex coast and sea
- Engage people in direct action to protect the Sussex coast and sea
- Enable learning and activities that encourage people to make positive lifestyle choices and behaviour change to reduce negative impacts to Sussex coast and sea
- Empower people to share experiences and influence others to protect the Sussex coast and sea
We’ll work with primary schools, young people and commercial fishermen, as well as the wider community and general public, and take them on a journey to make a positive difference to the crisis in the health of the sea. Wild Coast Sussex will target communities all along the Sussex coast, with extra focus on Hastings, Bexhill, Eastbourne, Brighton, Worthing and Selsey.
Marine Conservation Society is leading the project’s activities associated with young people (16-25s) to expand local debate, action and opportunities for marine conservation. As part of the project’s development period, we interviewed over 35 young people in Sussex to discuss their values associated with the sea. From December 2020 – March 2023, we will be delivering events for young people along the Sussex coast.
