Director of Engagement and Communications
|Salary:||circa £55,000 dependent on experience|
|Location:||Role will require regular visits to our offices in Ross-on-Wye, and occasionally to our offices in London|

We need an exceptional individual to join us as Director of Engagement & Communications in order to bring our vision to life for our audiences. This role will be part of the Senior Management Team and lead our communications and volunteer and stakeholder engagement strategies which champion the MCS brand and generates real impact through public support and engagement.
This is a role for someone who can demonstrate strong leadership with strategic, as well as tactical, ability – both courageous in taking the organisation forward, and perceptive in bringing our teams with you. You will be confident and resilient – enjoying working with senior stakeholders and developing your team to be great at what they do. Along with contributing to the strategic leadership role in the strategic development of MCS as a whole, your role as Director of Engagement & Communications is responsible for:
- Contributing to the leadership of MCS as a whole, progressing the aims of the Engagement and Communications Directorate with the wider organization in mind
- The development of MCS’ profile and public awareness through effective stakeholder engagement and high-quality, tailored external communications across multiple print formats and digital platforms
- Raising the profile of our conservation goals and increasing membership and local fundraising activities through a network of volunteers throughout the UK
- Volunteer-led survey programmes that maximise the value of the science generated and ensuring this is communicated and integrated through our programmes and campaigns
- Currently working at a senior level, with proven ability to motivate and influence others, lead organisation-wide change and delegate effectively to deliver outcomes
- Extensive experience of media handling in a professional organisation and a proven track record of engaging communities, including those that are harder to reach.
- Experience of developing impactful communications strategies and extensive knowledge of a wide variety of media channels, including digital (social) media
- A track record that evidences the effective development and use of innovative engagement and communications strategies that motivate action in support of a campaign
- Evidence of project management skills, showing how you are successfully able to plan, monitor and deliver results within challenging deadlines and limited budgets
- Demonstrable interpersonal and networking skills and ability to build long-term relationships with key stakeholders
