We're looking for new members to join our Board of Trustees
Closing Date: Sunday 3 February 2019
Our seas are under threat – from pollution, overfishing and a lack of protection. The Marine Conservation Society believes too much is being taken out and too much is being put into our seas. Our scientists, campaigners, volunteers, advocates, data experts, fundraisers, divers and researchers are all passionate about creating a sustainable future for our seas.
We’re looking for new members of our Board of Trustees, to help drive the strategic delivery of our vision for ‘Seas Full of Life – seas and coasts where nature flourishes and people thrive’ and our mission, to make political, cultural and social change for healthy seas and coasts that support abundant marine wildlife, sustainable livelihoods and enjoyment for all.
MCS has delivered key successes for marine conservation. We successfully campaigned for change – and were key in the introduction of carrier bag charges, bans on microbeads in personal care products, the spotlight on ‘non-flushables’. We have also been at the forefront of encouraging the nation to choose sustainable seafood, last year our Good Fish Guide improved the sustainability of the seafood in over 300 million meals. We believe in education and community involvement - with over 27,000 volunteers helping beach cleans around the British Isles, we help and mobilise our volunteers in the largest citizen science data collection programme in UK waters.
Our new Trustees will input strategically into our organisation, to help us to achieve even more. Your input and influence will support our Team and champion our work, to make a difference to the future of our seas both at home and around the UK’s Overseas Territories.
We are keen to hear from anyone who believes they have time and skills to offer, particularly with experience in the following areas:
- Communications, marketing and campaigning.
- Marine conservation, biodiversity and environmental science.
- Operational and business management.
- Education, engagement and volunteer development.
- Fundraising/Income generation.
We are committed to developing a Board that will benefit from a diverse approach to discussions to both inform and develop our work. We encourage applications from people of all backgrounds and are particularly interested in applications from people who belong to groups which are under-represented on Boards.
