Following the latest restrictions, governments across the UK have updated their guidance on volunteering. Volunteering can continue provided you do not need to self-isolate, you follow social distancing guidance and are Covid-secure.
Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Where possible, we are happy for volunteers to run small, private beach cleans with their family or allocated bubble, but please always check and follow national and local guidelines around lock down restrictions, along with the following rules:
To help we have updated all our resources including the health and safety guidelines and Q&A. Please do have a look at these and review the government advice before you start.
If you’ve never run a beach clean or litter survey before we’re happy to help you get started. Please give our team a call on 01989 567807 or email us at Beachwatch@mcsuk.org
To join us on this beach clean, please first register as a volunteer. You will then be able to sign up to this event on this page to let us know that you will be coming.
After such a great success at Ayrmer Cove back in September, where we managed to remove over 1000 pieces of litter from the sand and seaweed, it's now time to see what the winter swells have deposited on our shores.
This month the plan is to travel out to Westcombe beach, near Kingston, on Saturday 24th November. The tides are perfect with a spring low at midday. We will meet at 11am at the end of the dead-end road parking spot (please be aware that the road has many potholes so drive with caution but it is possible to get to the end, and lift share if possible). After a quick briefing we’ll walk down to the beach as a group descending for approximately 1km along a coastal footpath, which is sadly not considered suitable for wheelchair users.
Please bring clothing appropriate for the weather, robust gloves (e.g. gardening gloves) and adequate footwear. There are no facilities at this beach, so bring a snack and refreshments.
Children are very much welcome but must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
If you fancy coming along it would be great to see you. If you could send an email (davidmoir87@gmail.com) to let me know you are interested that would be greatly appreciated.
Hopefully see you on Saturday,
Dave
