Following the latest restrictions, governments across the UK have updated their guidance on volunteering. Volunteering can continue provided you do not need to self-isolate, you follow social distancing guidance and are Covid-secure.
Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Where possible, we are happy for volunteers to run small, private beach cleans with their family or allocated bubble, but please always check and follow national and local guidelines around lock down restrictions, along with the following rules:
To help we have updated all our resources including the health and safety guidelines and Q&A. Please do have a look at these and review the government advice before you start.
If you’ve never run a beach clean or litter survey before we’re happy to help you get started. Please give our team a call on 01989 567807 or email us at Beachwatch@mcsuk.org
To join us on this beach clean, please first register as a volunteer. You will then be able to sign up to this event on this page to let us know that you will be coming.
This latest Wardie Bay Beachwatch is in memory of an entangled humpback that the Forth Marine Mammals #forthmarinemammals group tried desperately to save. They named the whale White Fluke (or Tynae), and are hosting a Firth of Forth-wide beachclean on Sunday 16 June to encourage everyone to make our seas a better place. Ghost Gear - fishing ropes - weighed this magestic whale down like an anchor, cutting his fluke, until he was eventually too exhausted to fight. We have to change this world that we have blighted with our carelessness and pollution.
Beach clean ups are taking place all around our shores on this day. Locations include:
Musselburgh
Longniddry
Portobello
Seafield &
Wardie Bay
