Following the latest restrictions, governments across the UK have updated their guidance on volunteering. Volunteering can continue provided you do not need to self-isolate, you follow social distancing guidance and are Covid-secure.
Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Where possible, we are happy for volunteers to run small, private beach cleans with their family or allocated bubble, but please always check and follow national and local guidelines around lock down restrictions, along with the following rules:
To help we have updated all our resources including the health and safety guidelines and Q&A. Please do have a look at these and review the government advice before you start.
If you’ve never run a beach clean or litter survey before we’re happy to help you get started. Please give our team a call on 01989 567807 or email us at Beachwatch@mcsuk.org
Part of the annual Great British Beach Clean
To join us on this beach clean, please first register as a volunteer. You will then be able to sign up to this event on this page to let us know that you will be coming.
For this litter survey and clean as part of The Great British Beach Clean, we are joining forces with Polzeath Beach Care and Polzeath Marine Conservation Group who are holding a MEGA beach clean on the main beach. A group of us will survey Pentire Haven (Baby Bay) for beach litter and record all of it in a fixed area using MCS survey methodology. All data gathered today will go towards the Global Trash Index collated by Ocean Conservancy in the USA from cleans occurring in 120+ countries on this day. Please wear flat and waterproof shoes (no flip flops) and suitable clothing (its windy on the beach). Please meet at the marine centre for 3pm for a briefing - map is available on Polzeath Marine group Facebook page. Refreshments provided afterwards for all beach cleaners. Bring any medication that you need with you, Gloves provided. Its is quite a long walk from Polzeath main beach to Pentire Haven so be prepared! Contact jules.agate@mcsuk.org or see the Polzeath Marine Group Facebookpage for more info as I will be out all weekend beach cleaning!
