Following the latest restrictions, governments across the UK have updated their guidance on volunteering. Volunteering can continue provided you do not need to self-isolate, you follow social distancing guidance and are Covid-secure.
Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Where possible, we are happy for volunteers to run small, private beach cleans with their family or allocated bubble, but please always check and follow national and local guidelines around lock down restrictions, along with the following rules:
To help we have updated all our resources including the health and safety guidelines and Q&A. Please do have a look at these and review the government advice before you start.
If you’ve never run a beach clean or litter survey before we’re happy to help you get started. Please give our team a call on 01989 567807 or email us at Beachwatch@mcsuk.org
Part of the annual Great British Beach Clean
To join us on this beach clean, please first register as a volunteer. You will then be able to sign up to this event on this page to let us know that you will be coming.
We will assemble by the SWCP monument for a briefing before going down onto the beach to carry out our beach cleans. After the beach clean, the second half of the afternoon (from approx. 14.30) will include a guided rock pool ramble. This event is led by Somerset Wildlife Trust staff as part of our new Somerset's Brilliant Coast project. Booking is essential. If you have any queries contact Mark Ward on 07736 457620 or email mark.ward@somersetwildlife.org. We will have some litter pickers and a small supply of gloves, but please bring you own gloves if you have them(thick rubber or gardening gloves are ideal). Make sure you have appropriate outdoor clothing. We still plan to do the beach clean if it is rainy so have waterproofs with you. Wellington boots are suggested for the rocky shore ramble. There is (pay and display) parking along the esplanade.
