Following the latest restrictions, governments across the UK have updated their guidance on volunteering. Volunteering can continue provided you do not need to self-isolate, you follow social distancing guidance and are Covid-secure.
Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Where possible, we are happy for volunteers to run small, private beach cleans with their family or allocated bubble, but please always check and follow national and local guidelines around lock down restrictions, along with the following rules:
To help we have updated all our resources including the health and safety guidelines and Q&A. Please do have a look at these and review the government advice before you start.
If you’ve never run a beach clean or litter survey before we’re happy to help you get started. Please give our team a call on 01989 567807 or email us at Beachwatch@mcsuk.org
Part of the annual Great British Beach Clean
To join us on this beach clean, please first register as a volunteer. You will then be able to sign up to this event on this page to let us know that you will be coming.
Join the Berwickshire Marine Reserve rangers on a short walk along the coastal path from Eyemouth to Killidraughts Bay a more remote beach.
We will clean a 100m stretch of beach surveying the marine litter we find along the way - part of the Great British Beach Clean.
The data volunteers have collected over the last 25 years has helped make some of the most significant impacts on beach litter ever - the plastic bag charge, microplastics banned in personal care products, better wet wipe labelling, and massive support for a tax on 'on the go' plastic single use items.
But it's not job done. We need to gather more and more data to wage war on other types of beach litter, and you can help.
No experience necessary. If you have your own litter pickers and gloves please bring them along.
