CANCELLATION OF BEACH CLEAN EVENTS PENDING FURTHER NOTICE

The Covid-19 (coronavirus) infection has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organisation.
The health and wellbeing of our volunteers and supporters is our utmost priority and as such we have taken the decision to advise that all  beach clean events should be cancelled pending further notice.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will contact organisers and volunteers by email as well as update the guidance on our website as the situation develops.

Join us on Fri 26th July at Holland-on-Sea beach to help keep plastic out of the ocean! This beach clean celebrates record-breaking solo Atlantic rower Kiko Matthews’ Kik-Plastic team coming to Clacton on their 3 month Plastic Pollution awareness tour of the British coastline! Registration for this event is helpful so the organiser knows how many volunteers to expect, but it is not essential.

The Beach clean will involve a survey and clean-up of a specified section of beach and further clean-up of adjacent beach areas.

Please wear sturdy footwear. Bring sunglasses, hats, water, sunscreen, warm clothing depending on the weather. Please also bring re-usable strong protective gloves and litter pick tools if possible, some will be available. Re-usable collection bags will be provided and litter will be sorted into recyclable/non-recyclable waste to get the most benefit from the beach clean.

We will work in pairs as a minimum (pair up on the day if you are coming as an individual). Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult and have a completed Parental Consent form (supplied on the day). Toilets are within 200 metres of meeting point. Public transport and disabled parking is also close by. Please be aware there is a walk from the meeting point to the beach involving a ramp/steps down to the promenade and beach. Dogs are not allowed on part of this beach at this time of year. High tide: approx 19:00, 4.1m high.

The health & safety briefing will start at 4pm so please arrive promptly to avoid missing important information!

Booking is not essential but please register and book onto this event if possible so the organiser has a good idea how many people to expect on the day. We really appreciate the time and effort donated by all volunteers and look forward to seeing you on the 26th!

  • I agree to read and follow the information relating to Health and Safety available in the organiser guide.
  • I agree to ensure a risk assessment is fully up to date in advance of Beachwatch events and any changes reflected online.
  • I will give a Health and Safety briefing to any volunteers before events start that reflects the updated risk assessment from that day.
  • I will record the details of any accident or incident of concern during the event and report this to MCS.
  • I agree to run this event as an independent organiser in support of the Marine Conservation Society. I will not use the event for any form of political promotion in line with charity commission rules.
  • I understand that anyone under 16 years of age can only attend a beach clean with their legally responsible adult (e.g. parent, guardian, school teacher or guide leader). I, or any others attending the beach clean cannot supervise someone who is under 16 if we are not their legally responsible adult.
  • I understand that if no surveys have been submitted within two years my beach will become available for others.
  • If these terms and conditions are not adhered to then MCS has the right to remove the individual as an organiser of any future events.
