Following the latest restrictions, governments across the UK have updated their guidance on volunteering. Volunteering can continue provided you do not need to self-isolate, you follow social distancing guidance and are Covid-secure.
Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Where possible, we are happy for volunteers to run small, private beach cleans with their family or allocated bubble, but please always check and follow national and local guidelines around lock down restrictions, along with the following rules:
To help we have updated all our resources including the health and safety guidelines and Q&A. Please do have a look at these and review the government advice before you start.
If you’ve never run a beach clean or litter survey before we’re happy to help you get started. Please give our team a call on 01989 567807 or email us at Beachwatch@mcsuk.org
To join us on this beach clean, please first register as a volunteer. You will then be able to sign up to this event on this page to let us know that you will be coming.
Wardie Bay Beachwatch is a lovely event for everyone. Please come and encourage friends to come. We are helping to get the word out on the need for better waste management in our homes, businesses and communities, the lack of recycling provision and the excess plastic in our day-to-day lives.
As ever, please do take part in the survey, but as we get increasing numbers we are able to spread out a bit and do a bit more of a deep clean which really helps our local creatures and also our neighbours.
On June 3rd at noon, we are also hosting a Nurdle Hunt as part of FIDRA's Great European Nurdle Hunt 2nd-5th June, so please come to that too if you're keen. You can join our event on facebook or follow the whole Europewide initiative here: ow.ly/J0Mh30bLaWU
All you need for a nurdle hunt is some tweezers and a jar. There are thousands on Wardie Bay and it needs sorting.
We run monthly events - not always the first Saturday of the month, as you can see by this one, but it's either the first or second Saturday of the month. If you want to plan ahead, please get in touch for details.
Gloves and litter picking equipment are provided.
Please also visit our facebook page @WardieBayBeachwatch or twitter @wardiebaybeach and sign up for updates, pics and shares.
Looking forward to seeing you!
