Following the latest restrictions, governments across the UK have updated their guidance on volunteering. Volunteering can continue provided you do not need to self-isolate, you follow social distancing guidance and are Covid-secure.
Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Where possible, we are happy for volunteers to run small, private beach cleans with their family or allocated bubble, but please always check and follow national and local guidelines around lock down restrictions, along with the following rules:
To help we have updated all our resources including the health and safety guidelines and Q&A. Please do have a look at these and review the government advice before you start.
If you’ve never run a beach clean or litter survey before we’re happy to help you get started. Please give our team a call on 01989 567807 or email us at Beachwatch@mcsuk.org
Part of the annual Great British Beach Clean
To join us on this beach clean, please first register as a volunteer. You will then be able to sign up to this event on this page to let us know that you will be coming.
Please join us on George Street shore in the town centre on Friday 20th September where we will be supporting the Global Climate Strike by contributing to international data on marine plastics.
Meet on George Street beach – the main street – access via the slipway on the opposite side of the road to the distillery and shops. We'll be there from 10:30 – 12:00
We’ll be carrying out a survey of the 100m survey area (the high tide to the back of the beach) and a wider clean up too. This beach is cleaned on Wednesdays by New Hope volunteers and other groups regularly too. Come and see how this activity can make an incredible difference to our coastlines whilst we try to reduce waste at source.
You can take part as you wish, picking up, the survey or both.
Everyone welcome. Children and young people under sixteen, please bring a well-behaved adult with you.
Equipment provided but please do bring your own protective gloves and a bucket if you have them.
Please dress for the weather and boots or sturdy shoes are of course recommended.
Remember your water bottle, suncream and midge cream...just in case (preferably the sunshine!)
Thank you and looking forward to seeing you
Janie, MCS Sea Champion, Footprint Alba
