Cramond - Beachwatch event 26 Apr 2020

Information regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Small, local, private, social distancing beach cleans

Now that rules across the UK allow for more time to be spent outside, we are happy for volunteers to run beach cleans and litter surveys again – but only as small, local and private events, following the simple rules below:

  1. Always follow the government, and local council rules, where you are
  2. A private event with group numbers that follow your government advice, with social distancing measures in place
  3. Only clean a beach that is local to you (within 5 miles) – we don’t want to encourage anyone to travel
  4. Book these as private, closed events to avoid clashes with other beach cleans
  5. Update your risk assessment in accordance to our new safety guidelines
  6. Stay 2m apart from people other than your household
  7. Use gloves, litter pickers (if you have them) and wash your hands

To help we have updated all our resources including the health and safety guidelines and Q&A. Please do have a look at these and review the government advice before you start.

If you’ve never run a beach clean or litter survey before we’re happy to help you get started. Please give our team a call on 01989 567807 or email us at Beachwatch@mcsuk.org

Thank you for signing up for our beach clean and litter survey event at Cramond beach on the 26th of April. As you may have expected, this event, alongside all MCS events until the end of April, have been cancelled.

The following message from our CEO has been sent to all our Beachwatch Organisers:

We're sending our thoughts and well wishes to everyone who has been impacted by the COVID-19 infection. We hope you, your family, colleagues and friends are all staying safe and doing what you can to keep well in these uncertain times.

The COVID-19 (coronavirus) infection has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organisation. The health and wellbeing of our volunteers and supporters is our utmost priority and as such we have taken the decision to advise that all beach clean events should be cancelled in March and April.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will update you on future months as the situation develops.

Thank you so much for all your support and when it is safe to so we will re arrange the event.

Kind Regards,

Calum and Catherine

Hello everyone!

Thank you to everyone who came to our chilly but beautiful and sunny January event! Our next event will be on Sunday 26th April from 10-12. (Changed from Sat to Sun on 29th Jan).

Calum will start the briefing, including Health and Safety at 10am so please do feel free to come along 10 minutes or so early to sign in and pick up equipment. After the briefing we will head to the beach and clean and survey the 100m stretch marked out.

After we have cleaned and surveyed the 100m if anyone would like to stay on to do a wider clean of the area we will be around with the equipment til 12.

Please do come prepared for all the wonderful Scottish weather from layers to suncream! No matter what the weather please do wear close toed shoes for this event.

Everyone is welcome. If you are under 16 you will need a responsible adult with you to sign a permission for and stay with you for the duration of the event. Well behaved canine beach cleaners are also welcome!

If you have any of your own equipment such as gloves or litter pickers please do bring them.

Please also read the risk assessment attached to this beach page. If possible to travel by public transport or to walk/cycle please do otherwise there is public parking available nearby.

Thank you so much for signing up and we look forward to seeing you on the beach as we celebrate not only the Year of Coasts and Waters but also 20 years of MCS in Scotland!

Any questions please do not hesitate to contact Catherine on catherine.gemmell@mcsuk.org

Kind Regards,

Catherine and Calum
