Following the latest restrictions, governments across the UK have updated their guidance on volunteering. Volunteering can continue provided you do not need to self-isolate, you follow social distancing guidance and are Covid-secure.
Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Where possible, we are happy for volunteers to run small, private beach cleans with their family or allocated bubble, but please always check and follow national and local guidelines around lock down restrictions, along with the following rules:
To help we have updated all our resources including the health and safety guidelines and Q&A. Please do have a look at these and review the government advice before you start.
If you’ve never run a beach clean or litter survey before we’re happy to help you get started. Please give our team a call on 01989 567807 or email us at Beachwatch@mcsuk.org
Part of the annual Great British Beach Clean
To join us on this beach clean, please first register as a volunteer. You will then be able to sign up to this event on this page to let us know that you will be coming.
Come along and learn about the items arriving on shores in Oban Bay and other ways you can help to combat plastic pollution and turn the tide on marine litter!
Join us any time from 11:30 on George Street and later on the Esplanade—for the GBBC survey or just to help remove the items—two mins, ten, twenty or longer, whatever time you can spare. Why not pop down to see us after you’ve visited Motorfest in Station Square!
We'll be at Port Mor (Dunollie Castle beach) from 16:30 if you fancy an evening stroll and clean-up! You can always call to see where we are before coming down.
Please wear weather suitable clothing. Children and young people, please bring an adult.
All kit will be provided but if you have your own bucket and gloves please do bring them along.
Wherever possible items removed will be returned, repurposed or recycled through a beach plastics scheme (likely Terracycle).
For further information, please contact Janie on 07530 314 127
NB: Access to George St. beach is via the slip way, the Esplanade via steps and please note to get down to Port Mor it is necessary to climb a small wall and down a short ladder.
