Information regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Small, local, private, social distancing beach cleans

Following the latest restrictions, governments across the UK have updated their guidance on volunteering. Volunteering can continue provided you do not need to self-isolate, you follow social distancing guidance and are Covid-secure.

Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Where possible, we are happy for volunteers to run small, private beach cleans with their family or allocated bubble, but please always check and follow national and local guidelines around lock down restrictions, along with the following rules:

 

  1. Always follow the government, and local council rules, where you are
  2. A private event with group numbers that follow your government advice, with social distancing measures in place
  3. On distance to travel, please always follow the government, and local council rules, where you are
  4. Book these as private, closed events to avoid clashes with other beach cleans
  5. Update your risk assessment in accordance to our new safety guidelines
  6. Stay 2m apart from people other than your household
  7. Use gloves, litter pickers (if you have them) and wash your hands

Church Norton car park is by St Wilfred's Church, PO20 9DT, at the end of Rectory Lane, Selsey, West Sussex.

The beach is exposed so the beach clean will be cancelled if weather is very wet and windy.

The nearest facilities (loos, drinks) are at the RSPB Visitor Centre, PO20 7NE on the Selsey Road (B2145) or the the Old Piggery Farm Shop and Tearoom, Po20 9DZ on the Selsey Road (B2145)

The beach is a fascinating area with the old harbour entrance and St Wilfred's Church. Well worth a visit.

  • I agree to read and follow the information relating to Health and Safety available in the organiser guide.
  • I agree to read and follow the information relating to Coronavirus Health and Safety
  • I agree to ensure a risk assessment is fully up to date in advance of Beachwatch events and any changes reflected online.
  • I will give a Health and Safety briefing to any volunteers before events start that reflects the updated risk assessment from that day.
  • I will record the details of any accident or incident of concern during the event and report this to MCS.
  • I agree to run this event as an independent organiser in support of the Marine Conservation Society. I will not use the event for any form of political promotion in line with charity commission rules.
  • I understand that anyone under 16 years of age can only attend a beach clean with their legally responsible adult (e.g. parent, guardian, school teacher or guide leader). I, or any others attending the beach clean cannot supervise someone who is under 16 if we are not their legally responsible adult.
  • I understand that if no surveys have been submitted within two years my beach will become available for others.
  • If these terms and conditions are not adhered to then MCS has the right to remove the individual as an organiser of any future events.
