Following the latest restrictions, governments across the UK have updated their guidance on volunteering. Volunteering can continue provided you do not need to self-isolate, you follow social distancing guidance and are Covid-secure.
Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Where possible, we are happy for volunteers to run small, private beach cleans with their family or allocated bubble, but please always check and follow national and local guidelines around lock down restrictions, along with the following rules:
To help we have updated all our resources including the health and safety guidelines and Q&A. Please do have a look at these and review the government advice before you start.
If you’ve never run a beach clean or litter survey before we’re happy to help you get started. Please give our team a call on 01989 567807 or email us at Beachwatch@mcsuk.org
To join us on this beach clean, please first register as a volunteer. You will then be able to sign up to this event on this page to let us know that you will be coming.
This beach clean includes a rare opportunity to access a beach normally under high tide. Broughton Bay is safe and easy to access. Blue Pool Bay is normally under high tide so we don't know what the problems might be until we access the beach. We will access Blue Pool Bay first about 12 noon for an assessment of the beach, specifically for access and safety issues. We will then come back to Broughton Bay where we will likely find more rubbish than on Blue Pool Bay. Blue Pool Bay famously includes an immense and deep rock pool full of sea water which at low tide is accessible for swimmers. Neither the organiser nor Marine Conservation Society will accept responsibility for swimmers safety.
