Brightlingsea Paddling Pool Beach - Beachwatch event 6 Jul 2019

Information regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Small, local, private, social distancing beach cleans

Now that rules across the UK allow for more time to be spent outside, we are happy for volunteers to run beach cleans and litter surveys again – but only as small, local and private events, following the simple rules below:

  1. Always follow the government, and local council rules, where you are
  2. A private event with group numbers that follow your government advice, with social distancing measures in place
  3. Only clean a beach that is local to you (within 5 miles) – we don’t want to encourage anyone to travel
  4. Book these as private, closed events to avoid clashes with other beach cleans
  5. Update your risk assessment in accordance to our new safety guidelines
  6. Stay 2m apart from people other than your household
  7. Use gloves, litter pickers (if you have them) and wash your hands

To help we have updated all our resources including the health and safety guidelines and Q&A. Please do have a look at these and review the government advice before you start.

If you’ve never run a beach clean or litter survey before we’re happy to help you get started. Please give our team a call on 01989 567807 or email us at Beachwatch@mcsuk.org

Join us on 6th July at Brightlingsea Paddling Pool Beach to help keep plastic out of the ocean AND collect material for the Pirates & Mermaids art workshop event at the Christine Storey Gallery on the following Saturday 13th July!

The Beach clean will involve a survey and clean-up of the beach surrounding the paddling pool, plus clean-up of the other beach sections towards the ‘railway line’ and Sailing Club if we have enough volunteers.

Please wear sturdy footwear. Bring sunglasses, hats, water, sunscreen, warm clothing depending on the weather. Please also bring re-usable strong protective gloves and litter pick tools if possible, some will be available. Re-usable collecting bags will be provided and litter will be sorted into recyclable/non-recyclable waste to get the most benefit from the beach clean. Material for the art workshop will be washed before using.

We will work in pairs as a minimum (pair up on the day if you are coming as an individual). Children under 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult and have a completed Parental Consent form (supplied on the day). Toilets are within 50 metres of meeting point. Public transport and disabled parking is also close by. Dogs are not allowed on this beach at this time of year.

Tide times on 06/07/19: Low tide: approx. 08:18 (0.7m); high tide: approx 14:45 (5.2m).

Briefing will start at 8:30am so please arrive promptly to avoid missing important information!

We really appreciate the time and effort donated by all volunteers and look forward to seeing you on the 6th!
