IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

CANCELLATION OF BEACH CLEAN EVENTS PENDING FURTHER NOTICE

The Covid-19 (coronavirus) infection has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organisation.
The health and wellbeing of our volunteers and supporters is our utmost priority and as such we have taken the decision to advise that all  beach clean events should be cancelled pending further notice.

We will continue to monitor the situation closely and will contact organisers and volunteers by email as well as update the guidance on our website as the situation develops.

Meeting location: 
Meet down the steps to the beach on Lawrence Road, just past the roundabout coming from Plymouth or just before the roundabout of walking from the ferry. Access to the beach is via steps almost opposite Mount Batten Boathouse PL9 9XH and the no.2 bus stop. You can get a bus from Plymouth City Centre (bus no 2 leaves every 20 mins from Jurys Inn and takes 40 mins) or the Plymouth Mount Batten ferry leaves the Mayflower Steps (aka Plymouth Landing stage, in the harbour) at 1245 taking 5 minutes to get to the Mount Batten pier from where it is an easy 10 minute walk. http://www.mountbattenferry.co.uk/. Ferries return every 30 minutes on the hour and half hour (3.30pm, 4pm, 4.30 etc).
Additional information: 

Adults only event. It’s likely to be windy and possibly wet. Please wear/bring flat, waterproof and covered shoes like wellies or wetsuit shoes (not flip flops) for the shore survey. For the clean you can wear trainers but you cannot investigate rockpools in them! Bring a filled water bottle, non SUP snacks, camera, a waterproof jacket, a hat and charged mobile phone. In storng wind/heavy rain the event will be cancelled but not for drizzle/light rain. Please contact jules.agate@mcsuk.org. This event will also include a shore survey in addition to the beach clean and we will be looking for crabs using Crabwatch methodology.

  • I agree to read and follow the information relating to Health and Safety available in the organiser guide.
  • I agree to ensure a risk assessment is fully up to date in advance of Beachwatch events and any changes reflected online.
  • I will give a Health and Safety briefing to any volunteers before events start that reflects the updated risk assessment from that day.
  • I will record the details of any accident or incident of concern during the event and report this to MCS.
  • I agree to run this event as an independent organiser in support of the Marine Conservation Society. I will not use the event for any form of political promotion in line with charity commission rules.
  • I understand that anyone under 16 years of age can only attend a beach clean with their legally responsible adult (e.g. parent, guardian, school teacher or guide leader). I, or any others attending the beach clean cannot supervise someone who is under 16 if we are not their legally responsible adult.
  • I understand that if no surveys have been submitted within two years my beach will become available for others.
  • If these terms and conditions are not adhered to then MCS has the right to remove the individual as an organiser of any future events.
