Information regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

Small, local, private, social distancing beach cleans

Now that rules across the UK allow for more time to be spent outside, we are happy for volunteers to run beach cleans and litter surveys again – but only as small, local and private events, following the simple rules below:

  1. Always follow the government, and local council rules, where you are
  2. A private event with group numbers that follow your government advice, with social distancing measures in place
  3. On distance to travel, please always follow the government, and local council rules, where you are
  4. Book these as private, closed events to avoid clashes with other beach cleans
  5. Update your risk assessment in accordance to our new safety guidelines
  6. Stay 2m apart from people other than your household
  7. Use gloves, litter pickers (if you have them) and wash your hands

To help we have updated all our resources including the health and safety guidelines and Q&A. Please do have a look at these and review the government advice before you start.

If you’ve never run a beach clean or litter survey before we’re happy to help you get started. Please give our team a call on 01989 567807 or email us at Beachwatch@mcsuk.org

UPDATE:
Saturday 11 January
Due to strong winds making me clean potentially unsafe we have decided to postpone the clean to a future date. Sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.

RSPB Scotland's Dolphinwatch team are holding their first beach clean of the new year.

Start of the New Year by giving back to your local community and helping to protect the local wildlife by joining us for what we hope will be our biggest beach clean of the year. Last year, with the support of Surfers Against Sewage, we had an amazing 150 people support the clean, collecting over 90 bags of litter, can we beat that this year?

We will be meeting on the lower deck of the esplanade opposite the beach ballroom on Saturday 11 January 2020. We will meet at 10am for a short safety brief and had out equipment with the aim to start the clean at 10:30 and meet back at 12:00 to sort the litter and take a group photo of our efforts.

All equipment will be provided, including gloves, little picks and bags, but please bring any additional bags or gloves if you are able.

Everyone is welcome to join us as we will be trying to spread out as far along Aberdeen Beach as we can to collect as much litter as possible.

Every piece of litter we collect helps protect wildlife and allows us to enjoy spending time on beaches that are clean and safe.
