Weston Super Mare is an established seaside resort with fun-packed family activities and miles of sandy beaches. The marine lake was built in 1927 so that visitors could swim when the tide was out.

There are amusements on the pier. Swimming and watersports are popular, including sailing - there is zoning for wind and water sports. There is a sea-life centre and you can take a boat trip around the bay.

Wildlife and Walks

Explore this traditional seaside town. Uphill Hill Local Nature Reserve is near the beach, to the south there are some fantastic reserves and this area is on the tip of the gorgeous Mendip Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

What's tested here?

Water samples are not taken at this beach because it has not been designated as a bathing water and there is no voluntary sampling.
Why isn't this a designated bathing water?

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Annual classification

2017 Not tested

What does this mean?

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
