The beach is mainly of fine shingle with sand near to the water’s edge. The beach has an impressive backdrop of sandstone cliffs. Please notice the safety posters which give general advice.


There’s lots going on here, popular activities include: swimming, sailing, fishing, snorkeling, scuba diving, water skiing, wind surfing, power boating and sea canoeing. There is no zoning for water sports in place and there is a Children’s play area at the beach.

Wildlife and Walks

West Bay is on the South West Coast Path and forms a convenient stop for walkers with its harbour, pubs & food kiosks. The meadows alongside the River Brit are worth exploring.

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
