Watergate Bay is a long privately owned north west facing beach, about three miles from Newquay. A large open bay situated at the bottom of steep cliffs, which frequently picks up Atlantic swells and is highly popular with surfers.

A good beach for surfing and swimming.

Wildlife and Walks

This long stretch of beach is on the Coast Path. At low tide it is possible to walk all the way down to Newquay.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 15th May to 30th September.

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards
