A small strip of sand located on the estuary side of Teignmouth amongst moored boats and local fishermen going about their business.

Boat trips and fishing trips leave from the harbour. Large ships pass through the narrow estuary and dock at Teignmouth. With lots of parking, boat hire available and a cafe nearby this beach has some great facilities.

Wildlife and Walks

Take the ferry across the river and explore Shaldon and its wildlife trust. Look out for seals and dolphins which have been spotted offshore.

What's tested here?

Water samples are not taken at this beach because it has not been designated as a bathing water and there is no voluntary sampling.
Why isn't this a designated bathing water?

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Annual classification

2017 Not tested

What does this mean?

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
