One of the foremost surfing beaches in Cornwall. The backdrop to the beach is dominated by the Tate Gallery.

Activities

Offers some of the best surfing in St Ives. Swimming and bodyboarding are also popular - board hire is available.

Wildlife and Walks

Rockpools on both sides of the beach are well worth exploring. Walks around the Island and Clodgy Point on the coastal footpath. Cycle routes are the same as for cars. Seals and dolphins regularly seen.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 15th May to 30th September.

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
