The beach is 3/4 mile in length, backed by cliffs, and located in a bay. It is made up of sand and pebbles with some rock pools, and looks across Bridlington Bay to the south. The Old Flamborough Lighthouse is nearby.

Fishing is the most common activity at the beach. Swimming is not advised and there is no zoning for water sports activities. Just south of Flamborough Head, this is a beautiful stretch of coastline and forms part of the Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast - the Living Seas Visitor Centre is west.

Wildlife and Walks

There are various walks from Danes Dyke around the Heritage Coast and along the cliffs of Flamborough Head. Flamborough and Bempton Reserves hug the coastline to the north of the beach and are well worth visiting.

What's tested here?

Water samples are not taken at this beach because it has not been designated as a bathing water and there is no voluntary sampling.
Why isn't this a designated bathing water?

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Annual classification

2017 Not tested

What does this mean?

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
