Part of the northern section of Teesmouth NNR and within Tees Bay, this is a large expanse of sand with a gentle slope down to the sea. There are dunes and wildlife, the beach and dunes are SSSI and SPA sites.


There are walks and cycle routes along the promenade round to the marina. There is a golf club to the north and cricket club to the south of the beach.

Wildlife and Walks

Teesmouth NNR has 20,000 individual waterfowl visit during the year - Natural England manage the site. Coatham Marsh Reserve is south of the beach, inland and has plover, snipe, widgeon and teal - Tees Valley Wildlife Trust have more details.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 15th May to 30th September.
