Today's forecast

Forecasts are not available for this location.

A small peaceful shingle beach, overlooked by a 12th century tower and roman fort. Disabled access is not possible onto the seafront but there is access to the reserve, down a steep slope which is tarmacked.

Relax in the park or visit the amusement arcades. This is a good spot for sailing.

Wildlife and Walks

Visit the Reculver Visitor Centre, managed by the Kent Wildlife Trust, and explore the Country Park. Look out for sand and house martins, swallows, skylarks, kestrels, marsh harriers and gannets. There’s also Manx shearwater here - see groups flying low over the water towards land in the evenings.

What's tested here?

Water samples are not taken at this beach because it has not been designated as a bathing water and there is no voluntary sampling.
Why isn't this a designated bathing water?

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Annual classification

2017 Not tested

What does this mean?

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
