A long sandy beach backed by sand dunes stretching 3 miles from Portrush East Strand, popular with surfers because the waves can be very powerful.


Swimming, windsurfing, surfing, sea canoeing and water skiing take place at the site, but they are not zoned. Walking and cycling available.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 1st June to 15th September.

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.
