A quite secluded beach surrounded by a nature reserve - Ham Common. The beach is within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The beach itself is sheltered and good for bathing in the shallow waters.


Swimming, windsurfing, sailing and fishing. There is zoning for water sports. There are several windsurfing and sailing schools in the area.

Wildlife and Walks

At Ham Common reserve (an SSSI) you might see dartford warblers, stonechat, merlin or osprey. Seals are present around the harbour. Most of the harbour’s foreshore is designated as a Special Protection Area (SPA).

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 15th May to 30th September.
