Downhill Strand is the eastern end of a magnificent 7 mile stretch of sand running from Downhill Cliffs to Magillijan Point. It is overlooked and benefits from spectacular views of Donegal Coast and beyond.

Activities

Swimming, sea angling, surfing, windsurfing, walking and cycling are all popular here. Arts and crafts and horseback riding are also available.

Wildlife and Walks

The beach itself is 10km long offering plenty of space for a stroll by the sea. The nearby Downhill Estate is also available to walkers (entry charge applies Easter - Autumn). Walks also available in nearby Downhill Forest.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Northern Ireland Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 1st June to 15th September.

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Approx 15 free parking spaces in roadside car park adjacent to main beach entrance. Parking is also permitted on the beach, to the left of the main entrance.

Dog restrictions

 

Dogs are allowed but restrictions apply from May - September annually.

Beach is mechanically and manually cleansed during the summer season.
