Situated on the edge of the rugged and beautiful L’Ancresse Common. This is a popular family beach with a large area of sand that becomes exposed as the tide goes down. It is also a popular area with windsurfers and kitesurfers.

The beach is used for swimming, fishing, wind surfing and boating.

Wildlife and Walks

L’Ancresse Common is an excellent place for walking. There are also good coastal footpaths round the Chouet Headland and around the coast to Pembroke in one direction and Grand Havre in the other.

What's tested here?

Water samples are taken voluntarily at this beach by States of Guernsey from 15th May to 30th September.

Water samples do not need to be taken at this beach and may not be treated in the same way as designated bathing waters, but they are collected in the spirit of the Bathing Waters Directive.
Why isn't this a designated bathing water?

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Annual classification

What does this mean?

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
