Today's forecast

The only coastal town in East Anglia to face west. Hunstanton is known for its famous red and white striped cliffs. The tide retreats to expose a large sandy beach, which can become crowded in the summer.

Activities

The Oasis Leisure Centre, Sea Life Centre, a pitch and putt course, bowls, tennis and an indoor market are all situated close to the beach. You can take a boat to Seal Island.

Wildlife and Walks

Stroll along the promenade and enjoy this established seaside resort. To the north of the beach is Holme Dunes National Nature Reserve and south is the RSPBs Snettisham reserve.

What's tested here?

Water samples are not taken at this beach because it has not been designated as a bathing water and there is no voluntary sampling.
Why isn't this a designated bathing water?

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Annual classification

2017 Not tested

What does this mean?

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
