An isolated beach far from the crowds who use the Hastings Town beaches. Hastings Country Park Local Nature Reserve has disabled parking and more facilities.

Visit nearby Hastings Country Park Local Nature Reserve, where they have had recent sightings of extraordinary migrants in spring and autumn such as sardinian warbler, red-rumped swallow, and pallas’s warbler - Hasting Borough Council’s website has more information on the site.

Wildlife and Walks

Rye Harbour, managed by the Sussex Wildlife Trust, is fairly close (a 20 minute drive or so). There is a wealth of birds and flowers at Rye - from godwits and grebes to teal and tufted ducks. Check out the Wildlife Trust’s website for information on what species are there throughout the seasons.

What's tested here?

Water samples are not taken at this beach because it has not been designated as a bathing water and there is no voluntary sampling.
Why isn't this a designated bathing water?

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Annual classification

2017 Not tested

What does this mean?

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
