A long beautiful sandy rural beach, well known for surfing and seldom crowded. There is a cafe and beach shop by the main car park. An excellent place for a family day out. Note that there can be rip currents in the surf off the beach.

Activities

Surfing, swimming and walking are popular. The sand dunes and rock pools are great for exploring.

Wildlife and Walks

This is a great spot for watching seabirds, with colonies of guillemots, razorbills and cormorants. Common seals are here too.

What's tested here?

Water samples are not taken at this beach because it has not been designated as a bathing water and there is no voluntary sampling.
Why isn't this a designated bathing water?

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Annual classification

2017 Not tested

What does this mean?

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
