Situated to the south of Great Yarmouth, this is a lively and very British Seaside resort with a soft sandy beach and is interspersed with groynes.

Activities

There is plenty to do in any weather, with amusement arcades, nightclubs and the Pleasure Beach. There are boat trips, organised football, trampolines, inflatable slides and bouncy castles plus crazy golf courses. Both piers have theatres.

Wildlife and Walks

Explore the long beach, promenade and piers. The RSPBS Berney Marshes and Breydon Water is to the east, which has some spectacular wildlife including golden plover, redshank and wigeon. Further north is The Waterside in Rollesby where you can survey the fabulous Trinity Broads from the bird hide.

What's tested here?

Water samples are not taken at this beach because it has not been designated as a bathing water and there is no voluntary sampling.
Why isn't this a designated bathing water?

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Annual classification

2017 Not tested

What does this mean?

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
