Today's forecast

Forecasts are not available for this location.

Situated between Sharrow Point and Tregonhawke, to which Freathy joins at low tide. Mainly used by locals. Beware high tide when this part of the coast splits into many smaller coves. Access via a narrow cliff path.

Activities

Surfing. Please beware of rip-currents. Not ideal for snorkelling - there is a designated area for swimming. Sunken frigate, HMS Scylla, lies on the seabed in the bay, making this a popular dive site.

Wildlife and Walks

When the tide is out you can walk around Sharrow Point to neighbouring Sharrow beach and continue west towards Tregantle Beach. The beach is right on the SW Coast Path. Head east for Rame Head and for spectacular views back across the bay.

What's tested here?

Water samples are not taken at this beach because it has not been designated as a bathing water and there is no voluntary sampling.
Why isn't this a designated bathing water?

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Annual classification

2017 Not tested

What does this mean?

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
