The beach is 1/4 mile in length, backed by cliffs, and located to the north of Flamborough Head and lighthouse. It is made up of sand and pebbles with some rock pools and chalk caves which are only accessible at low tide. There is a beach bar and cafe behind the beach.

This is a popluar beach with families for paddling, rock pooling and relaxing. There is a fishing boat launch area on the beach. The caves are accessible at low tide but please make sure you are aware of the tide times as it is possible to be cut off by fast rising tides.

Wildlife and Walks

There are various walks from North Landing around the Heritage Coast and along the cliffs of Flamborough Head. Two nearby reserves are Yorkshire Wildlife Trust’s Flamborough Cliffs and RSPB’s Bempton Cliffs.

What's tested here?

Water samples are not taken at this beach because it has not been designated as a bathing water and there is no voluntary sampling.
Why isn't this a designated bathing water?

High levels of bacteria in the water can indicate pollution from sewage treatment works or polluted rain water draining from the land.
Where does pollution comes from and how can you help?

Water quality can be reduced for up to 72 hours after heavy rain. Look out for temporary signs at the beach and on our website.

Annual classification

2018 Not tested

What does this mean?

At the end of every bathing season the water quality is classified as either:

Excellent — the highest classification meaning the water is cleanest

Good — generally good water quality

Sufficient — meets minimum standards

Poor — You are advised not to swim. The beach will stay open and an action plan should be in place to improve the water quality.
