This beach is formed by a large expanse of limestone pebbles and is backed by cliffs on three sides which shelter bathers from the prevailing winds. Rufus Castle overlooks the beach which is south facing and safe for swimming.

Activities

Swimming, snorkelling and fishing take place off the beach. Visit the castle or Portland Museum, a short distance from the beach.

Wildlife and Walks

There are numerous and well-marked footpaths on Portland and the island affords superb cliff-top views. The area is a haven for bird watchers and dolphins have sometimes been sighted in the channel.
