An isolated spit adjoining the ancient headland of Hengistbury Head. Mudeford Sandbank offers a sandy beach against a backdrop of picturesque beach huts and views of Christchurch Harbour and the open sea. Limited wheelchair access.


Activities here include: swimming, water skiing, windsurfing and sea canoeing. There is zoning for water sports.

Wildlife and Walks

Sometimes seals, porpoises or dolphins can be spotted in the water. Hengistbury Head and Christchurch Harbour (SSSIs) are renowned for their wildlife. On the Head purple emperor butterflies can occasionally be seen.

Water samples are taken at this designated bathing water by the Environment Agency, during the bathing season, 15th May to 30th September.
